‘CHILDLINE se DOSTI’ – Reaching out with an important message.

Don Bosco’s Konkan Development Society – CHILDLINE, South Goa conducted a variety of events during ‘Childline se Dosti’ week, which were held over a period of 3 days.
Day 1:
Date: 15/11/2018 Time: 10:00 am
Place: Sr. Valentina’s Little Heaven
This event was attended by Nodal Childline Coordinator Sr. Divya Raphael, South Goa Coordinator Pradnesh Gauthankar, team members Penvija, Sapiya, Blanco, Vasanta and Suraya; Children from Sr. Valentina’s Little Heaven and Sr. Valentina.
The event began with a drawing session. Children were grouped based on their ages, into three groups. i.e. 3 – 6 years; 7 – 12 years; and 13 and above. The first group was given a picture of a Butterfly to color. The second and third groups had to draw and colour based on the topics “My Happy Place” and “Childline, My Friend” respectively. Materials required were provided to the children. Team member Blanco played games and did an action song and dance for the children, who participated actively. This was followed by a short talk about ‘Childline’ and refreshments for all. The event concluded with a group photograph.
Day 2:
Date: 16/11/2018 Time: 10:00 am
Place: Sadhuband Slum, near Konkan Railway Academy, Navelim, Goa
This program was attended by centre Co-ordinator Pradnesh, Team members Penvija, Suraya, Sapiya, Blanco, Vasanta and volunteer Elma; Children of Sadhuban Slum.
The programme was attended by 25 children from the area. The team was introduced to the children. Pradnesh spoke to the children about Childline and its services. Team member Suraya spoke to the children about what they should do if a stranger tries to harm them. Team member Blanco organized fun games for the children who were very keen to participate. Team member Sapiya spoke to the children about how to maintain good hygiene. The children were later provided with light refreshments. This was followed by an interaction with the children wherein they shared about the problems that they face, which include inadequate toilet facilities. Team members also found out that instead of going to school, some of them are begging and some are dropouts. The event concluded after the interaction.
Day 3:
Date: 20/11/2018 Time: 08:30 am
Place: KTC Bus Stand, Margao
This program was attended by the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Lida Joao, Nodal Childline Coordinator, Sr. Divya; the South Goa Childline Team and the General Public.
The signature campaign was organized on the occasion of “International Child Rights Day” at Kadamba Transport Corporation, Margao. The Chief Guest for the signature campaign was Mrs. R. Fernandes.
We started our outreach by inviting members of the public to sign and take the pledge to protect Children’s rights. They showed a lot of interest in signing. Don Bosco’s KDS Childline South Goa Team explained the importance of the signature campaign. Bus conductors and drivers also joined in. A total of 173 people participated in the signature campaign.
