In order to raise awareness regarding the benefits of a regular health checkup for the improvement of the quality of life and general health among migrant people, the Migrant Desk team approached Dr. Sucorro Quadros of the Primary Health Centre, Cortalim and requested him to conduct a free Medical camp at Zuarinagar. The team under his guidance had done a survey in the area and had found that there was need for such a camp.
On 19 January 2018, a team of Government Doctors from the Primary Health Centre arrived in Government Primary School, Zuarinagar and conducted the screening for common non-communicable diseases like Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Hypertension, Anemia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Oral Cancer, Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Eye problems, Dental issues, Diet advice, Common skin problems like pigmentation.
There were around 40 to 50 people who benefitted from this medical camp, which not only provided free screening but also distributed medicines free of charge.
The programme was conducted under the “National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke”. The camp was a great success and the people were grateful for the services provided.
