INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH CHILDREN IN THE BIRLA SLUM

PURPOSE OF THE SESSION:

TO INFORM ABOUT MIGRANT DESK PROJECT AND GAIN MORE KNOWELEDGE ABOUT THE PEOPLE; TO CREATE AN INTERACTIVE ATMOSPHERE IN THE COMMUNITY AROUND BIRLA.

Birla is a slum situated in the Dabolim area of Vasco. This was the place from where we started off our Migrant Desk Project. We organized an interactive session with the children from around the area, so that we could build a good rapport with the community through these children.

Around 50 children were present. We introduced ourselves and followed up with some exciting activities. We then explained that we would help them to prepare their documents to access the various welfare schemes of the Government. We also inquired how many had their Aadhar Card. We conveyed to them that besides documentation we would try to help them in other ways, to find solutions to their day to day problems. We emphasized that the children should go home and inform their parents so that later, when we visit the area, the community is aware of our presence and they know that we are there to assist them.

Finally, through this interaction we realized that there are several people who have a lot of difficulty making/procuring their documents and also in availing Government benefits.
